Wendell Berry on local landscapes

Now that I weeded our vegetable beds yesterday, I have time to read a short reflection by Wendell Berry on the potential for sustainable solutions in the changing landscape of coal-dominated eastern Kentucky: “The local use of local intelligence must start with the local landscape.”

What will we discover about old and new industries in north-central Wisconsin: do they make light of or show respect for “the local economic potential of the local landscape, of local intelligence, local history, and local culture”?
